Jack Frost's father fought in WWII. His brother fought in Korea. So when Jack's own draft card arrives, there's no doubt in their minds that he'll do his duty, and fight in Vietnam. Jack loves his family, but he also knows that killing another human being is something he can never do.
Welcome Home is the short story of one man's struggle to maintain his innocence amid the brutality of the Vietnam War, torn between his family's expectations, his loyalty to his brothers-in-arms, and his own moral code.
Interview with the Author
Q - What makes Welcome Home special?
A - As a former Army officer and student of military history, I know that the guys who got drafted for Vietnam got a really raw deal. Aside from being sent to fight a war they didn’t volunteer for, when they returned home, they were shunned by the American public. I wanted to write a short story set during the Vietnam War that asked what if there was a soldier who felt obligated to serve his country, but felt he couldn't kill another human being? How would he deal with that personal conflict?
Q - Why should readers give this book a try?
A - It's a short, fast read, and will appeal to all fans of military fiction, historical fiction, and literary stories about army veterans and the challenging situations we can and do experience.
Q - Have you written other books?
A - Yup! If you're into stories about the military, you should definitely check out Combat and Other Shenanigans, the NY Times-bestselling memoir of my year in Iraq as a tank and scout platoon leader. You can get it for free by signing up on my website.
Thanks for reading!

Welcome Home is a short story set in Vietnam and told in a foxhole between a new lieutenant and a hardened Sergeant. Hard to believe such a complete story is told in only 13 pages. Jack Frost is a soldiers' soldier - completing every training class offered to stall from going to Vietnam as an infantry boot. He graduates at the top of his training classes but faces a moral dilemma when finally arriving in Vietnam and facing the enemy. The sergeant also has a secret that he seeks absolution for in telling this tale.Great read - especially when free! I'm looking forward to reading other offerings by Piers Platt.

Welcome Home A Story of the Vietnam War edition by Piers Platt Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
As a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam area the story was of interest and invoked memories. Thank you I enjoyed the prose.
good book
I liked this story of two men in the middle of the Vietnam War. One of the two tells a story to the other about a comrade he had. It is a well executed story, no pun intended, and the imagery and dialogue is very good. A good short story to read.
Good short story. I like it.
A really interesting good book to read about the Vietnam war.
And a solder who is,pressured by his family tonight in it
The story of a soldier going through lots of training and knowing where he belongs and feels comfortable. He manages to survive the war the only way he sees fit.
This is a short story about a NCO and his new Lieutenant talking about a soldier the NCO knew who had gone AWOL due to personal issues about killing.
It’s a pretty good story, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense. Now I didn’t grow up during Vietnam, but I’m sure there were other options available other then the few the book discuss’ and the one he chose. Now maybe things were different back then and those were the only options.
Anyway, I enjoyed reading it and it was written in a lively manner that didn’t bog me down into boredom.
